How to apply Long Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) for Foreign Husband of Malaysian Wife

Foreigner who married to a Malaysian and living in Malaysia can now apply for a Long Term Social Visit Pass (or formerly known as Spouse visa) for up to 5 years. We were lucky because when we first apply spouse visa for him in January 2011, the rules just amended. Unlike before it is only valid for one year, we obtained 5 years LTSVP in one application. Since we reside in Shah Alam and my IC address is also current address in Shah Alam. So the nearest immigration office we went were Kompleks PKNS, Shah Alam.

The process as usual time-consuming, Based on our experience, at least 3 visits are required! Since we couldn't get much information online, what we do is visit the immigration office and make inquiries as detail as possible in our First visit. Share with you the process so it could at least help you to minimize the visits and the hassles. Please take note that different immigrations might have different SOP. The immigration office that we went is:

Shah Alam Immigration Office - Visa, Pass and Permit Division
2nd Floor, Kompleks PKNS Shah Alam,  Persiaran Tasik, Seksyen 14, 40000 Shah Alam, Selangor

First, went the commissioner of Oath to certified all the filled forms that required to be certified. Then return to Visa, Permit & Pass Division for submission. Immigration officer then instructed us to go to LHDN to do the stamping for the security bond. The certification and stamping process can be done early (during first visit) as it is valid for 3 months from the date of certified / stamped to avoid delays. After complete, we then asked to waited for approval. We waited for about an hour and were notify that the application accepted. Original documents then return to us, including husband's passport. There will be an endorsement chop with a written serial number (or file number) on husband's passport under the Endorsements Page - as a confirmation of LTSVP application submission.

Ham Heung Naengmyeon, Desa Sri Hartamas. 함흥냉면. 李家麵屋.

Previously this shoplot was tenanted by Japin Japanese Restaurant. 2 weeks ago we saw it under renovation. 2 weeks later it's open for business~ a Korean Naengmyeon Restaurant. Surprise to find out that they are selling Dweji Gukbap too! That's the first Korean restaurant selling Busan specialty Dweji Gukbap and Naengmyeon that we found in Malaysia so far. Ham Heung Naengmyeon is Busan style cold noodle (also called Milmyeon. Naengmyeon is origin from North Korea and it was brought to South Korea by the refugees during Korea War. Naengmyeon that brought down to Busan were refugees from Ham Heung (a capital in North Korea), which evolved into Mil-myeon later. Therefore it is known as Ham Heung Naengmyeon as well. Uam-dong's Naeho Naengmyeon that I ate when I was in Busan in 2013, is one of the origin Milmyeon place opened by Han Heung refuges since 1954.

He~ the Busan guy immediately order the Gukbap without a second thought! I chose to try their Ham Heung Naengmyeon. We were so delighted when the complimentary Yuk-su (meat broth tea) was served after order placed. It is common that Yuksu serve along with Naengmyeon in a Naengmyeon specialty restaurant in Busan. But not the Korean restaurant in Malaysia that we visited so far. However the Yuksu already seasoned with salt, so I find a bit salty. The Yuksu I had in Korea before were not seasoning so far.

Mine is Naengmyeon (S) + Suyuk @ RM39. I can choose Bibim-Naengmyeon (dry cold noodle) or Mu-Naengmyeom (cold noodle in broth); and boiled pork or boiled beef for the set. The Naengmyeon is S size - slightly smaller than the normal serving. The thinly sliced beef is soft with some fats attached on it, soak in broth to maintain it's moist. Goes well with the Bibim-Naengmyeon.

And his~ Dweji-gukbap 돼지국밥 @ RM20 is a pork soup rice dish where Koreans normally add the rice into the soup and eat together with Kimchi or Kkakdugi. The sides is refillable. The condiments~ Gochugaru (red chilli powder) and Saeujeot (salted fermented shrimp paste) are use to seasoning the Gukbap as it will be serve without seasoned.

A week later we came again, this time I try their Mul-Naengmyeon 물냉면 @ RM19.00. The beef broth is good! You can add some vinegar and yellow-mustard in it just like the Koreans did. However for me, I love the original taste as it is so I don't add normally.

I guess Naengmyeon and Gukbap is still not so well-known among the locals when it comes to Korean food. So the eaters here 99% are Koreans and the only 1% left is me. The operation hour is revised to 9am till 5pm, so now we have a "Korean-breakfast" choice nearby. Don't be surprise if you spot the chef from Dae Sa Kwan Korean BBQ Restaurant (which is just few steps away) running between both Ham Heung Naengmyeon and Dae Sa Kwan's kitchen. He owns both restaurants.

Since there are many inquiries on how we registered our Marriage in Malaysia as Malaysian-Korean couple, I decided to blog it here for everyone's reference. However, Laws & Rules might be change from time to time so you are advice check with the authorities for the latest rules & procedures before proceed. For our case (as a Malaysian wife and Korean husband), the process is a bit time-consuming as we required to make few trips between Putrajaya and Embassy of Republic of Korea. In total, JPN x 3 times, Embassy of Republic of Korea x 2 times, Ministry of Foreign Affair x 1 time.

JPN (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara) is National Registration Department in Malaysia (NRD) where registration of Birth, Death, Marriage & Divorce, application for Identity Card, Citizenship and adoption will be done in JPN. We choose to go to JPN Putrajaya due to following reason:- JPN Putrajaya open on Saturdays (we went on a Saturday to make inquiry and change of address of my IC at the same time); We need to go to Ministry of foreign affairs for re-certificate notarial cert for his single status letter, which is located in Percinct 2 Putrajaya; Putrajaya has a nicer Solemnization of Marriage hall compare to Selangor state. I summarized the whole process by locations as below:

  • First of all, we visit JPN for general inquiry and obtain Form JPN.KC02 (Application of Registration of Marriage) to be fill in at home. FYI, original form is required for submission for application.
  • I was required to change my address in Mykad which can be done in JPN with a fee of RM10. It's located in the same building, but different floors and different department. New Mykad can be collect on the next working day. Why I have to change of address? Well, my Mykad address has to be Selangor Address if I wish to carry out the Registration of Marriage in Selangor State (including Putrajaya). Refer to Application Requirements - clause no.2
