Starbuczs swing~ Bukit Kiara via Mont Kiara (Opposite Kiaramas Ayuria)

Here's some quick snapshots of the jungle trail in Bukit Kiara via Mont Kiara side that I back to hike biweekly starting early this year. I've give a skip hiking here for more a year ago and change to brisk walk furthest up to Jalan Kiara 8 & Kg Palimbayan. Now I am back again because I miss the jungle. However, sad to know that there is a proposed development of 60 to 65 floors condominiums near the entrance (opposite Ayuria) via community page. Before another part of the jungle of Bukit Kiara disappears (just like what happen to the part of the jungle in current Jalan Kiara 8), I will do more hikes nowadays. Today's hike I met a couple from Singapore who purposely came for a hike of several mountains nearby during their stay in KL. They are heading to Starbuczs swing so we walk together since we are on the same trail (just go straight all the way for approx.20 mins). Thanks to them I get a picture of myself with the Starbuczs swing after helping them to take photos.

Michelin Bib Gourmand Bak Kut Teh~ Hing Kee Bakuteh (main branch), Jalan Kepong

My 3rd week of January started to fill with food trips with a good friend who are coming back for long break from overseas and stay over at my place. Right after she left, a foodie friend asked me to go for dinner and we went for Michelin bib gourmand bak kut teh at Kepong haha. I seriously need to walk more this month to burn off what I've eat for the past few days. So back to Hing Kee Bakuteh, we went to their HQ (which is stated in the Michelin guide) located at 121, Jalan Kepong, next to Aeon Kepong. They have a branch not far away from HQ - located next to RHB bank. In fact we droved by it before we reach the HQ. 

Different from Klang BKT which is serving the morning crowds, Hing Kee BKT open from 4pm until 2.30am to serve the night owls. It reminds of me the Beng Kee BKT at Old Green House, Jalan Burmah, Penang. During college days, I used go there for claypot BKT as supper with classmate after we finish night class. What we order for our BKT tonight are 生骨 Sang Kuat (ribs/ meat bones), 脚弯 Ka-wan (pork back trotter), stuffed intestines and fucuk (bean curd skin). It's my first time eating sang-kuat and stuffed intestine Bak kut teh. The stewed fat ka-wan never failed to be my favourite~ Hing Kee bkt broth color is lighter and soupy compare to Klang bkt.

       

       

Crunchy Coffee Whisky & Rum and Raisin~ The Ice Cream Bar, Desa Sri Hartamas

The Ice Cream Bar has been here for years~ since 2016 after I checked. I have wanted to try and finally 8 years later, I made it haha. They are well known with their alcoholic ice cream, it is the same ice cream parlour ~ Inside Scoop. Non alcoholic ice cream is available as well so don't be surprise if you see Muslim customer sitting at the cozy corner outside enjoying the ice cream. I share a Crunchy coffee whisky and Rum & raisin (one scope each) with a friend. Can taste whisky well but can't really taste rum since rum itself is sweet and not having strong alcohol taste. Milo Guinness will be my next must try ice cream.  

    

    

Old school taste claypot chicken rice~ Kim Poh, Segambut

I've lost count of this is my 2nd or 3rd clay pot chicken rice hunt in nearby neighborhoods. Google reviews said this shop is a hidden germ in Segambut industrial area. Well, it is kind of 'hidden' at a row of shoplot next to the housing area and Kim Poh is the one and only eatery while the rest are doing auto-parts trading. From the front look, you can tell this place has been running for business for many many years. We order claypot chicken rice for 2 pax, with lap-cheong, and a double boiled watercress soup (sai-yeong choy tong).  

Slightly different from those claypot chicken rice we've eat before, the chicken meat unseasoned with dark soy sauce. The soy sauce is pour on top of the chicken meat and lapcheong after it is all cook. Salted fish is not cook together in one pot. It was served separately in a small sauce bowl with shredded ginger by placing it on top of the claypot chicken rice when it is serve. Chicken meat is quite tender and juicy. Maybe I am too get used to those claypot chicken rice that already seasoning, I find it a little bit tasteless so I ask for an additional plate of salted fish. Like my friend say, this is an old school taste claypot chicken rice.

2024 first brunch, with Bestie~ Kopenhagen Coffee, Mont Kiara

It's been a long long while since I last here at Kopenhagen, probably in 2017. The Nordic / Scandinavian cafe has influence me to keep my house minimalist since my first visit. There's a little changes in the cafe where I can recall, the sofa has changed it's seating from inside to outside. However my favourite corner at the entrance when walking up the stair to the cafe, and the window bar seating are still the same, no changes. Today bestie want to indulge in good coffee and brunch after our walk. So I suggest we go Kopenhagen since she has tried Kofi by 77. 

We both had the same choice~ Esbjerg Egg and cheese. It's a toasted bagel with spicy mayo spread, with caramelized onions scramble eggs and cheddar, served with side salad. The scramble eggs with caramelized onions taste a little bit similar to our home cook onion omelet. We have a good time with her latte and my flat white, and the warm scramble eggs + tasty toasted sesame seed bagel. So blessed that my bestie became my neighbour again in another state after 13 years later.

    

   

2024 first dine out ~ at a hidden little neighbourhood Japanese Restaurant

First week of 2024 and first dine out after post covid. Went back to a favourite hidden little Japanese restaurant in the neighbourhood for dinner. Shared a grilled half dried cuttlefish, a pork cutlet curry rice, and grilled salmon jaw that we asked to make it into set so we could have rice and side dishes to eat with the grilled salmon jaw. The Japanese lady owner still busy at the kitchen as usual, while the daughter and other staffs serving food and taking order at the front bar counter. Everything looks the same like the first visit in 2022. Can't believe 2 years has passed, just like that. This 2024, I have to self-quarantine at home as I was infected with covid-19 for the very first time before 2023 end. Thank God that I did not develop serious complication, however coughing hard and still continue coughing after recovery is a little bit upsetting me. Hopefully the cough will go away soon with the medicines and supplements that I am taking now for recovery.
