July 2006. Our gang's first outing at Pantai Kerachut, Penang National Park. We chartered a boat at the Jetty at the park entrance to bring us to Pantai Kerachut instead of hike there. Picnic near the rocks area next to the sea with the food we bring on our own while a friend try to do fishing and the rest hanging around and chatting non stop lol. Pantai Kerachut is well know as turtle beach as well, since turtle will come here to lay eggs between April to September. There's a turtle hatchery and conservation centre here, however we did not spot any turtle eggs (yet) while we were here.
Also not to be missed is the Meromictic Lake~ where the water layers (fresh water and salt water) are not mix. A rare phenomenon that occurs between May to August. There are only three such a lake in Asia so far, and one of them is in Penang National Park - the only one in Malaysia. After we hung out there for two hours, our chartered boat came back to pick up us. It looks like our adventure doesn't end here, waterspouts (water cyclone) were spotted on the open sea of Malacca Strait while our boat was sailing. However boatman told us that the waterspout was still far away, so we will be alright until we go back to land. It was an unforgettable yet great outing for our first time together as a gang.
Meromictic Lake behind us.
