101 Tapirs in Publika

July 2022. Publika is having a one-of-a-kind TapirLah x Finch Market for two weeks, from 25 July to 7 August, featuring 101 cute tapir exhibits alongside local artisan markets at Level G2 (which I always think of as the ground floor). Compared to the real tapir I saw at Zoo Negara last year, the tapirs here are much cuter, haha. 101 is quite a bit fewer than the 1600 pandas that invaded Publika in 2015. I was lucky to catch this exhibit (just as I did with the 1600 pandas back in 2015) when I dropped by Publika after work.

Lunch alone~ Dragon-i Peking Duck Restaurant, Pavilion KL

July 2022. Dragon-i is one of the places that pops into my mind when I am seeking comfort food. I have many memories attached to this restaurant from my life in Penang and KL. My first dine-in was when their first store in Penang opened in Queensbay Mall in 2007. There were long waits with queue numbers given. I fell in love with the Xiao Long Bao, Sichuan Dan Dan Mien, Mapo tofu rice and salt and pepper deep fried bean curd. During my first two years living in Kota Kemuning after relocating, Dragon-i Sunway Pyramid was one of my must-go places when I missed my favourite food. I tried out several other dishes and found another new favourite: the black pepper stir-fried knife-cut noodles with beef. Then we moved again, this time to Kuala Lumpur. The Dragon-i outlet at Pavilion KL became the one we visited most frequently, compared to the 1 Utama, The Curve, and Mid Valley branches, which were also nearby. Perhaps because the Pavilion outlet is a Peking Duck restaurant, our favorite Black Pepper Knife Cut Noodles and Mapo Tofu Rice are not on the menu.Today, I walked over to Pavilion for lunch at Dragon-i and was happy to discover they now serve stir-fried la mian with black pepper beef (or chicken). It’s very similar to my old favorite, though they’ve replaced the knife-cut noodles with la mian. Pairing it with the salt and pepper deep-fried bean curd really brought back a lot of memories~

By the way, off-topic—did you know that selfies are not allowed in the washrooms at Pavilion? Not sure if it applies to all of them, but the one near Lavender Bakery has a sign prohibiting cameras at the full-body mirror.

Wagyu birthday lunch~ Honest Butcher by Chefnickt, Petaling Jaya

Celebrate a friend's birthday with Wagyu as lunch at the restaurant that friend preferred. Google map mark the right location but we doubt for for a while so we missed the building when we first drove pass. Apparently they just recently move to this place which is an industrial area. The building has no signage but bronze bull statue at the yard tells you that it's related to cow / beef. We had Aussie Wagyu Steak Tartare, A5 Miyazaki Ribeye, A5 Char Gyu Egg Noodles, Sake Mirin clam Soup and red wines (Primitivo Cuvee 2017, Italy). I pre-order the beef tartare and make a request to serve together with a birthday candle to surprise my friend, the candle is hilarious 😂😂 I really didn't expect the staffs sing us birthday song haha. It's fun anyway. The A5 Miyazaki Ribeye just melt in my mouth as expected. And I never know that the A5 Char Gyu can be way more delicious than my favourite fat fat Pork char-siu! It's a birthday meal for a friend, but seems like I am the one who enjoy the most for this meal.
