A hidden Japanese restaurant inside The Japan Club~ 日馬和里 Himawari, Kuala Lumpur

A friend said this hidden Japanese restaurant is his recent 'me time' place where he can read report during lunch break. And he brought me here for lunch today. Since it is located inside the Japan Club, majority of the diners are Japanese who came to the club for activities and classes. Their set meals are good and value for money. We had Gyuniku Shichimi Yaki and Buta Shyoga Yaki - both are grill / stir fried meat except one is pork and one is beef, plus Tempura. This cozy place that filled with Japan vibes kind of reminisce to a Japanese restaurant in Pulau Tikus that I occasionally went for lunch back in the 2000s. After meal we take a look around of the Japan club. Bought some mochi(s) and limited edition Kirin beer from the Japanese mart inside the club before leaving. Since it is a club for members, you need to register with the guard post to get a visitor pass before you are allowed to drive in and park inside the club compound. You also need a guard to assist to open the club entrance door since it needs access card to go in.

Big Big Wantan Mee & Rice, Damansara Jaya

Went to Big Big Wantan Mee for dinner and there's big big moon tonight~ haha. This claimed to be the place where you can get cheapest wantan in town~ everything in their menu is affordable. Our order~ Dry minced pork wantan mee (small) and Soup minced pork wantan mee is RM6.50 each. Price is lower if compare to the hawker stall wantan mee (nowadays small serving is RM7). We also order extra dish~ Hakka pork belly RM8.00 and minced pork eggplant RM7.00. Drinks is not compulsory like coffeeshop where you must get order at least one drink. Oh they are running the place on it's own, not a coffee shop for your information. Taste wise it is good and portion is standard! Worth the value for money!!

Tasty Chapathi, Bukit Damansara

After our Indian food adventure at Little India, Brickfirleds, today we come to Bukit Damansara for "atas" Chapathi. My previous dine-in for "atas" Indian food should be the Khaana Peena at Plaza Mont Kiara that already closed down some times ago. Anyway, the food is tasty, just like it's name ~ Tasty Chapathi. We shared 2 plain chapathi and 2 butter chapathi, their chapathi doesn't serve with curry gravy so we need to order the gravy separately which is Methi Chicken (Chicken dunked in a creamy fenugreek  gravy) and Chana Masala (Chickpea dunked in a masala gravy). Obviously the 4 pcs of chapathi is too little for us to enjoy with the delicious Methi Chicken and Chana Masala. So we end up order a plain steamed-basmati rice and fully enjoy the creamy gravy!

Kochabi Hometown Taste Hokkien Dish~ Xan Ling, Segambut

Come here for traditional hometown taste Hokkien dish at Xan Ling Segambut, located not far from my favourite Vietnamese pork totter hor fun place. The restaurant is made like those old time Chinese wooden old house, furniture are wooden tables and chairs as well. Not many choices in their menu but all are their signature dishes. We order their most signature dish~ Claypot Sang guat noodle which required at least 45mins waits after order placed. It is recommended to call up to pre-order if you don't want to wait. Our visit is unplanned so we don't mind to wait as long as it's delicious! We didn't wait that long anyway, slightly more than 30mins. The juicy pork meatballs made with minced pork & sha-kok (yam bean) is a must try, I like it the most among those dishes we had! The braised pork and stir fried cabbage with fucuk is really kochabi (old school taste), it's like those homecook dish that I've tasted at my friend's home made by her mom when I was young..

From the newspaper cutting on the wall (interviewed and introduced by 8TV ho-chiak), we found out that the place is named after the owner couple's daughter - Xan Ling. Xan Ling's mom is the cook behind all these homecook dishes, and the recipe is enhanced from those homecook dishes that Xan Ling's mom learnt from Xan Ling's grandma. Price is reasonable, I think I mentioned this before (in my old blog) that food around this area (Segambut) are good and inexpensive. Therefore residents / expats including us who lives in Mont Kiara often drive here to look for meal on weekends.

A dog friendly Bakery Cafe in MK~ So Moreish with Johnny, Mont Kiara

Didn't know there is a dog friendly bakery cafe at Aman walk until a friend told me about it yesterday. He wanted to have a cup of nice coffee while bring his dog out for a walk in the neighbourhood, and he discover this nice neighbourhood cafe that is pet friendly. Compare to before pandemic, there are more and more pets (dogs) can be seen strolling around MK with the owner or helpers. But not all places allows pets in. This pet friendly cafe not only serving freshly bake pastries and sourdough, but also nice breakfast, sandwiches, pizza and pasta! It's kind of hidden under the pedestrian walk between Bayu walk and Aman walk, I didn't notice it at all when I walk pass during my walks.

That's friend's toy poodle laying on the ground after playing 'Bang! Bang! with her. cuteness overload~ Seeing this cutie making me miss the Maltese who stayed with me several months in year 2018. On my way walk home, spotted this chubby squirrel at a tree along Jalan Kiara. MK has a lot of squirrels especially in my condo compound. Everyday I can see squirrel chasing after another squirrel around the bushes or on the road, climbing up trees or even making loud sounds and wakes me up early in the morning.

Best Char Siew in KL~ Char Siew Yoong, Cheras

I thought I have already tried many nice char siew at different places. Nothing is going to wow me anymore. Therefore I really did not give any expectations when my friend said he will bring me go eat one of the best char siew in KL this noon. And, OH MY GOD!! The char siew is so soft buttery and melt in my mouth. The proportion of fats is more than lean meat; with enough charring, the char siew is so caramelized yet it is not sticky and the soft buttery inside. I am so so so impressed! The braised chicken feet is also equally good~ the meat felt off the bones after put into our mouth. You can tell that from those bones on plates we emptied. We also tried their spicy sour veggie soup.

There are only 5 items in their menu which are the char siew, siew yuk (roasted pork), kampung chicken, spicy sour veggie soup and braised pork leg. While on the way to Char Siew Yoong, friend says the queue or waiting time can be long especially during peak hours; and the char siew might be sold out since we are late (we arrived at 2pm). Guess I am blessed, besides siew yuk and braised pork legs sold out, there are char siew left and we did not wait long. 8 mins after we placed order, the food is served! Now, this is my no.1 best Char Siew in KL (or Malaysia).

My favourite place for Bingsu nearby home. After 1.5 years never came here due to MCO, today I will forgo my blood sugar reading will be high tomorrow and indulge on the bingsu without any hesitation haha! My favourite bingsu still goes to Injeolmi Bingsu - Korean milk sorbet with glutinous rice cake, red bean paste, condensed milk and roasted bean powder. My friend also falls for it and this is his second time eating bingsu @ Villa Ju within a week after I introduce him bingsu.
