October 2012. Macau. So we missed our flight in the morning and arrived Macau late evening after taking next flight in the afternoon. On the way to our hotel in Macau central district from Airport, we passed by The Venitian Macau and Macau Tower and briefly see it with our eyes as we going to give missed and ditch Taipa from our plan this trip.
After check in to our hotel room, we begin to walk to Ruins of St. Paul's direction which is also the central district of Macau. Just right outside of our hotel - Sofitel, pawn shops can be seen lined up everywhere! That leaves a strong impression to me even before those heritage buildings and churches.
We walked about 15 mins, about 1km to see Grand Lisboa (which I blog in previous post), then turn back to Senado Square. We went to Yee Shun Milk Company to fill our hunger since it is one of the must eat when you visit Macau (and Hong Kong). Order a double skin steamed milk and a steamed ginger milk, a pork chop bun and a ham and cheese sandwich to fill. The steamed milk (pudding) is not as wow as expected, but can give a try since it is one of the signature dish that HK / Macau. The pork chop bun and ham and cheese sandwich really not recommended. The pork chop and ham is so thin and skinny than the bun and sandwich bread, also dry. Not cheap as well, guess they are only good at steamed milk pudding.
After meal, we cross the street to opposite to Largo do Senaro (Senado Square) where Ruins of St Paul is. If it wasn't because of those Chinese wording, Chinese lanterns and Chinese faces everywhere, you probably think you were at Portugal or somewhere in Europe with those Portuguese influence architecture buildings, courtyard, cobblestone path and surrounds with Catholic churches. According to Macau Tourism site, there are 17 old churches and cathedrals that built more than four and a half centuries ago and 14 of them are in the central district of Macau. I wish I have time to check it out one by one but I guess I need to make another trip to Macau again with longer stay next time.
On the way walk back to hotel, we stop by to takeway beef offal from this roadside stall run by a couple named 澳门明记牛杂美食 Ming kee beef offal with queues when we passed by earlier. We waited about 15 to 20 mins for our order to be ready. Besides beef offal e.g. triple, tendon, intestine, meatballs (which we takeaway), there are also other variety such as lapcheong, chicken feet, beancurd skin even veggies. As the beef offal is keep boiling in broth, we can constantly smell herb broth which is similar to the beef noodle that selling in Malaysia. We also tried the herbal tea from road side stall, it is not much different from those selling in Malaysia. The familiary and similarity makes me feel like I am not in Macau but in Malaysia lol.
