Ruins of Saint Paul's, Macau

October 2012. After breakfast we came back to Senado Square to visit Ruinas de Sao Paulo (Ruins of St. Paul's) ~ the iconic landmark of Macao. Ruins of St. Paul's, Macau share similarities with St. Paul's Church in Melacca. Both built by the Portuguese in 16th centuries on top of a hill and associated with fortress. However Ruins of St Paul's is in the state of ruin, with only parts of the original buildings remaining while St. Paul's Church are not ruins. Compared to night time, it is so crowded during the day especially now it's the China National day Golden Week, "people mountain people sea"... so it's hard to take photos with good angle.

On the way to Ruin's of St Paul, again we passed by the St. Dominic's Church which is also UNESCO World Heritage Site. Last night the church was closed, today the green gatedoor is open however there's no entry to the main hall so I did not get a chance to visit the church.

Along the way everyone needs to walk thru this street with shops and restaurants on both sides. We've had our eye on the Pastelaria Koi Kei's cookies when we browse around the bakery last night. So we already decided to get them after we visits to Ruins of St Paul and on our way down / back. We bought a dozen of snowflake almond flakes cookies as souveninrs from Macau to family & friends. Their snowflake almond cookies are sugar crusted almonds with crispy layers beneath~ crumbly texture yet crunchy flaky almond pastry. For your information, Koi Kei has a presence in Hong Kong including Hong Kong International Airport, however we decided to get here and carry all the way to Hong Kong with us just to avoid not able to get what we want later.
