Old school taste Assam Fish & Salted fried chicken ~ Hup Kee, Jalan Ipoh

Very old school "dai-chao" place in Jalan Ipoh. The restaurant exterior, interior, food, even the smells inside the restaurant are so old school. It flash back some memory of dad bought us whole family dine out at"dai-chao" restaurant like this when I was young. The food is, delicious and taste unique! Well, my friend who is like a "Eating God" so far never fail to introduce me delicious food! It's like homecooked dish but they have their own recipe for the taste.

We have 3 dishes - Assam fish (with mah yau fish) where the assam gravy more tangy from those ordinary assam fish I have so far. More close to the Penang Assam Laksa broth yet it has the Nyonya Acar flavour mix in between? The salted fried kampong chicken is the dish that will make me come back again for it. According to my friend, the chicken is either boiled or steam before they deep fried it. A chicken dish that his mom will make with the chicken meat that use to boil chicken essence, batter it and deep fried and turn into another dish. The chicken meat texture is soft and flavourful while the skin is crispy. While the ice vegetable salad is refreshing but portion is too big for 2 pax to finish even though we asked for small serving.

Japanese Cafe inside the condo~ 吾衛門 Goemon, Mont Kiara Palma

Not sure if you know, most of the condos especially those old and first batch built in Mont Kiara has a restaurant inside the condo compound; unlike those later developments where the commercial area are outside of the condo. Mont Kiara Palma is one of it - where the restaurant is located in the middle of the lake & swimming pool between the 2 blocks. After the long run Japanese restaurant Kobayashi closed down (sadly due to covid business were really slow and they don't survive). It has taken over and renovated into a Japanese cafe, owned by Hachi bakery and Daruma Syokudo. The cafe serve not just coffee and breads from Hachi, also Japanese meals, and some Japanese products e.g. instant noodles, rice, frozen food (that similar to those selling in Daruma) etc. Besides the 3 tables inside the cafe, diner may sit outside - next to the pool side and lake side to enjoy the meals. You need to register with the guard post in order to dine-in at the restaurant. Oh they also rent out the cute swim ring float to the residents~ interesting.

TokPork Nasi Lemak~ Yum Me Place, Jalan Batai

Happy Friday~ a friend deliver a pack of famous pork nasi lemak from Jalan Batai for me as brunch! I've seen this video about Tok-Pork Nasi Lemak on KL Foodie that has million views! This funny guy decided to sell non halal pork nasi lemak as he was inspired by Village Park Nasi Lemak owner who owns many luxury cars including Phantom and Ferrari (he wanted to have one of those luxury cars too). It's good to have a dream and work hard for it! The Tok Pork Nasi Lemak is RM14.90, served with thick cut fat and tender pork belly where the skin is charred using a torch burner. Pair with the crispy fried onion (I like this the most), curry potatoes, half of hard boiled egg and homemade sambal. So fattening but also so yummy!

Slow Wood Coffee~ The Society, 10 Mont Kiara

After the last tenant, the Korean cafe ~ The Cafe More closed down, The Fare has undergo renovation for quite sometimes and seems like they revamp the whole place. Lately, it's has reopen again with a contemporary café~ Slow Wood Coffee, an artisan bakery - Lilian's Cake House, an Asian food bistro ~ Signature, and one more on first floor which I didn't explore to find out what it is. Seems like The Fare has rename to this place to Society now. This retail premises that next to MK10 or 10 Mont Kiara used to known as The Fare. I was here to meet up someone at Slow Wood, so get to try their hand crafted sparkling passion with extra shot (expresso) and americano. Only bagels are available, so I chose the poppy seeds bagel with truffle butter. And, the truffle butter is really nice! While other bagel was tomato spring onion bagel with cranberry cream cheese. Very limited seats inside but more seats outside. If you could bear the heat wave that currently happened in Malaysia, outdoor sitting is quite nice to chill or hangout. Obviously it is also an new instagrammable places especially the young chic.

仰光道凉茶~ Ragoon Road Herbal Tea, Penang

Back to Penang~ after dinner at Big Crab, we came to town for Chinese herbal tea at Ragoon Road since my nephew is coughing. I call this Chinese herbal tea stall house in a van as liang teh at Lai Lai Supermarket though Lai Lai Supermarket closed down long time ago. I lost count how long I have not been here for herbal tea~ Those days whenever I feel "heaty", have flu cough or sore throat~ I always came here bitter tea 苦茶 with extra Chinese traditional medicinal powder and it works on me like magic! Just tell the stall owner your health condition and he will recommenced what type of herbal tea you need. I can't find such bitter tea in KL that works on me in KL however I do go to Tan Ngan Lo or Koong Woh Tong as substitute. They also have bitter tea that can required add extra medicinal powder; but not every time works like charm for me like the one at Ragoon rd.
