부산 기장시장~ Gijang Sijang, Busan

Since we are not unable to visit Jagalchi Market yesterday due to massive jam and no parking (it's Chuseok long holiday), we visits Gijang Market instead at this morning before leaving Busan to Jeju in noon. Gijang market is seafood and fishery market, also widely known as King crabs market! There are both outdoor and indoor fishery market selling not only seasonal seafood but also agricultural products such as dried anchovies, seaweeds, Korean side dishes and even clothing are available just like other traditional market in Busan. Currently cutlass fish and flower crab is in the season - autumn, we just had flower crab dwenjang-guk as our breakfast this morning and it is yummy!

As Gijang is not a big city like Busan and not many foreigner tourist like us visit the market for sightseeing, few seafood seller ahjuma around the entrance actually not so welcoming and scolding us for taking photos instead of buying. Just stop taking picture to respect them if you encounter this. There are many friendly sellers at the back that very welcome you to have a look and take many pictures if you want. If you happens to visit Gijang while you are in Busan, don't miss out to taste the King crab or snow crab here in Gijang Sijang.

Busan, Haeundae, Songjeong-dong, Cheongsol Whasong Hwejib 부산 해운대 송정 청솔와송횟집

Day 2 in Busan~ Haeundae -- Dongbaekseom -- Dalmaji -- Songjeong

After Dalmaji, we came to Songjeong-dong, another end of Haeundae to have seafood dinner together with my in-laws family. It's a seafood matjib serving Korean raw fish~ 회 Hoe (read as Hwe in Korean). Songjeong dong is well known with Songjeong beach. After pass by Songjeong beach, continue to drive along the coastal road you will find quite a few of sashimi restaurants line up along the way. While waiting for my in-laws family coming over, we chill-out at the rocks at the seaside since it is low tide. There are locals fishing and some trying to catch those small crabs running between the rocks. My brother in law manage to catch a crab with the disposable chopsticks. After show it to the kids, he let it go back to the rock.

It's my family first time trying the Korean raw fish~ freshly killed and fillet in thin slices upon order. Usually it is decorate in a round flowery shape on a plate, serve together with cho-gochujang, ssamjang and soy sauce with wasabi. Fresh greens such as lettuce and sesame leaves is serve as well where you can eat it as ssam. Besides Hoe, also serve along are steamed sea snail, raw shrimp sushi, hot plate grilled enoki mushroom, kimchi, pickled radish and seaweed soup. Besides that we also order 장어구이Jangeo-gui (charcoal grilled eel). There are two ways of Korean grilled eel~ one is Sogeum Jangeo-gui (salted eel) where the eel is cleaned and salted before grilled. Another one is Yangnyeom Jangeo-gui (red sauce grilled eel) where the eel is first grilled till it is cook, then dip it in red sauce then place it on the aluminum foil which is ready on the side of the grill net. Let the eel that coated with red sauce continue to cook until sauce become thicken and absorb into the eel before eat. End of our day 2 with local Busan seafood delicacy as dinner.

Busan, Haeundae, Dongbaekseom & Nurimaru APEC House 부산광역시 해운대구 우동 동백섬

Day 2 in Busan~ Haeundae -- Dongbaekseom -- Dalmaji -- Songjeong

After lunch, our head to Dongbaekseom which is located at the right end of Haeundae beach where we could see not only Haeundae beach in whole and also panoramic ocean view with Busan city skyline at far end while walk around the island in a circular loop. Dongbaekseom also known as Camelia (Dongbaek) Island (Seom) as there are Camelia (flowers) blooming everywhere in the island during winter to spring around December to March. It used to be an island, but now is have become part of the mainland as time goes by. The circular trail begin from the front of Busan Westin Chosun Hotel, as we going round Dongbaekseom we will passed by Nurimaru APEC House, Lighthouse Observatory, Choi Chi-Won Statue and Octagonal Pavilion.

Nurimaru APEC House is built for the 2005 APEC Summit where the head of states from 21 Asia-Pacific countries gathered. Malaysia former Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi was the representative from Malaysia who attended the meeting. Currently it is a memorial hall after the APEC summit meeting and it is open for public to visit. Admission is free. At level 3 - APEC Summit Conference Hall - from the big round meeting table and chairs, to items used during the summit are preserved in their original form in the summit hall. Sound clips of leaders speaking during the meeting is playing too when we visited the hall. As the APEC House is built next to the sea, level 3 have a panoramic ocean view as well from different angle.

After visit APEC house we walk further to Lighthouse observatory for the another landmark of Dongbaekseom. The lighthouse is not open for visit however the observatory deck offer another panoramic sea view. We did not stay long here because there's no shade and we are all under the hot sun despite it's early autumn. The last landmark -- Choi Chi-Won Statue and the Octagonal Pavilion is located opposite the Lighthouse Observatory -- where you need to walk up the stone stairs to the top which is the highest part of Dongbasekseom to visit it. Continue walking on the circular loop trail and we are back to the Westin Chosun Hotel again upon exit the island.

Busan, Haeundae, Haeju Myeon-ok 부산 해운대 해주면옥

Day 2 in Busan~ Haeundae -- Dongbaekseom -- Dalmaji -- Songjeong

After all ten of us finally gather together, we moved to Haeundae for lunch at this Hae-ju myeon-ok that established since 1994. Famous for it's Wang Galbi-tang (Beef short rib soup) and Haejang-guk (hangover soup) as well as Naengmyeon (cold noodles).  While most of them order the Wang Galbi-tang, I prefer something cold in this sunny early autumn so I go for Naengmyeon and all are delicious.

There's this pine tree bonsai standing alone in front of the restaurant while there is no other similar tree along the pedestrian walkway, this pine tree must be carry some special meaning. After lunch, before head to next stop, brought the kids go see the local police station in front of the restaurant that they curious about; I asked them to hug each other when I take photos and that's the outcome cuz they hug each other very rough haha. We then went to E-mart which is just one street away but didn't buy anything since it's just our first day. So we plan to go to E-mart again when we are in Seoul later before flying back to Malaysia.
